After an eventful day of unexpected incidents, Mid Valley and Nu Sentral shopping centres have reopened their doors to customers today.
The temporary closures were a result of the Midvalley fire incident and a power cut at Nu Sentral, both of which caused disruptions and concerns among visitors and tenants.
However, with necessary measures taken and issues addressed, the malls resumed business as usual.
Mid Valley fire incident
A fire broke out at an external Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) substation within the premises of Mid Valley City. Thanks to the prompt action of the Emergency Response Team, the fire was contained and brought under control. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported during the incident.
Upon receiving reports of the fire, the Fire and Rescue Department deployed their firefighters to the scene. Their swift response and expertise ensured the safety of individuals in the vicinity. TNB confirmed that the fire led to a disruption in the electricity supply for users residing around the Mid Valley area and parts of Desa Pantai.
Efforts were immediately initiated to restore power to affected customers. TNB’s technical team worked diligently, and significant progress was made in restoring electricity. Some customers had their power reinstated as early as 10:55 am, and TNB continues its efforts to restore power to the remaining affected customers.
Following this incident, the Mid Valley shopping centre closed its doors temporarily in view of the safety of the customers.
However, the Mid Valley City management says offices, hotels and shops within its premises will resume operations after receiving clearance to reopen “following a thorough investigation by TNB and Fire and Rescue Department.
Nu Sentral unscheduled power cut
In a separate incident, Nu Sentral shopping centre faced an unscheduled power cut yesterday, resulting in the temporary closure of the mall. The management office promptly informed the public through a Facebook announcement and expressed apologies for any inconvenience caused.
In response to the power cut, Nu Sentral’s management took immediate action to ensure the safety of the mall’s staff and shoppers. Evacuation procedures were followed, prioritizing the well-being of everyone present. The office also pledged to provide regular updates on the situation, keeping the public informed.
According to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the power cut at KL Sentral, where Nu Sentral is located, was caused by a separate power-supply issue. The transportation system at KL Sentral remained unaffected by the power cut.
Resuming business as usual
Following swift and diligent actions, both Mid Valley and Nu Sentral resumed their operations today.
Mid Valley shopping mall confirmed the resumption of business after obtaining clearance from the Fire and Rescue Department. Similarly, Nu Sentral announced that the power issue had been rectified, enabling them to reopen and welcome customers once again.
However, the investigations into the fire incident at Mid Valley are still ongoing.
Brickfields district police chief ACP Amihizam Abdul Shukor said initial investigations proved there were no signs of foul play, however, they are awaiting the full result of the investigation from the Fire Department’s forensic department.
With Mid Valley and Nu Sentral back in business, visitors can once again enjoy the shopping experience and services these malls offer.
