Ipoh-born Oscar-winning actress, Michelle Yeoh, has etched her name in history by becoming the first Malaysian woman to be inducted into the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
This significant milestone follows her nomination for election in September, pending the final vote from existing committee members, which was held in Mumbai, India. The announcement of her appointment came after an overwhelming vote of 67 in favor, with only nine opposing and one absentee.
Notably, His Royal Highness Tunku Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Imran ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja’afar of Negeri Sembilan was the last Malaysian member in the IOC, serving from 2006 to 2018, before reaching the age limit of 70.
