Malaysian national dancer Cherry Yeo Xiao Wei, aged 18, has etched her name in the international dance scene by clinching three gold medals at the prestigious Mallorca dance festival in Calvia, Spain over the weekend. The event, spanning three days, saw Yeo’s outstanding performances in three solo female Latin disciplines, in addition to securing a bronze in the festival’s adult solo female Latin category.
Competing alongside four other Malaysian dancers from the Kuala Lumpur Dance Sport Association, Yeo showcased her exceptional talent and dedication to the art of dance. Yap Wan Xin, Madeleine Lau Yu Xuan, Nicole Lim Le Wei, and Taraneh Ahmadi Zeidabadi also participated in various categories of the festival.
Golden victory
On the first day, Yeo claimed the titles of MDF Solo Female Youth Champion and MDF Solo Female Adult 4th Place. Other Malaysian participants, Madeline Lau Yu Xuan secured Solo Female Junior II 3rd Place, and Taraneh Ahmadi Zeidabadi made it to the Solo Female Adult Quarter Finalist.
Day 2 saw Yeo’s continued success with her triumph as the WDSF Solo Female Youth Champion, surpassing 53 other female athletes to secure the gold medal. Yap Wan Xin and Yap Wan Xin WDSF Solo Female Youth Semi-Finalists, and Taraneh Ahmadi Zeidabadi as WDSF Solo Female Youth Semi-Finalists, also made their mark in the competition.
The final day witnessed Yeo’s crowning achievement as the WDSF Solo Female Adult Latin Champion. Her impeccable performance, placing first in every dance in the final, outshone 37 competitors from 14 different countries. Other Malaysian dancers, Yap Wan Xin and Madeleine Lau Yu Xuan, made it to the semi-finals in their respective categories.

In a statement, the MY DanceSport Academy attributed Yeo’s success to her unwavering commitment and consistent training. Despite the considerable distance from her home in Pahang to the training hub, Yeo’s dedication and hard work paid off, earning her the title of the top athlete in Malaysia for both the Adult Female Solo Latin and Youth Female Solo Latin categories.
Yeo’s meticulous training and planning were expertly overseen by MY DanceSport Academy‘s Principal, Mr. Chua Zjen Fong, and Ms. Evon Chong, both esteemed 15-times Malaysia Latin Champions. The association expressed pride in Yeo’s accomplishments and highlighted her as a shining example of Malaysian talent on the international stage.
