Touch ‘n Go brings smiles to underprivileged girls at Rumah Charis

Touch ‘n Go spreads joy at Rumah Charis, empowering underprivileged girls. Lum Joy Deng’s engaging session fosters dreams and festive cheer.

Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd, a leading Malaysian technology company, brought joy to the Home for the Children by Rumah Charis through a heartwarming Christmas gifting and sharing session led by Lum Joy Deng, the Chief Corporate Development Officer, and 15 enthusiastic volunteers.

Rumah Charis, a non-profit Christian-based organization founded in 1988 by Reverend Dr. Teo How Ken, provides a safe haven for 22 girls from underprivileged backgrounds. The festive event, filled with laughter and camaraderie, aimed to create a memorable Christmas experience for the girls, aged between 4 to 22 years old.

The day’s festivities included fun games, heartwarming Christmas carols, the exchange of carefully selected presents, and a delectable celebration feast prepared by the dedicated Touch ‘n Go volunteers. The atmosphere of warmth and celebration set the stage for an intimate engagement session between Lum Joy Deng and the teenage girls.

Empowering conversations

During the session, the Chief Corporate Development Officer shared personal experiences as a female leader, offering valuable insights into career opportunities available for the girls. Joy emphasized the importance of empowering young girls to pursue their dreams, discussing challenges, hopes, and aspirations with the teenage girls.

“Women make enormous contributions to economies, whether in businesses as entrepreneurs or as employees. It is only right, therefore, that we continuously contribute to creating an ideal world where young girls, who are our future pillars, are empowered to achieve their dreams,” said Joy.

Beyond motivation

Prior to the visit, Touch ‘n Go employees organized an internal Secret Santa event, collecting gifts and other items for the home, fostering employee engagement and the spirit of giving back to the community. The generous contributions included fulfilling the girls’ Christmas wish lists, household necessities, electrical appliances, disinfectant sprays, school supplies, and a substantial monetary donation of RM5,000 to support the overall welfare and maintenance costs of the home.

“Beyond providing motivation, we hope our financial contribution will help them improve and preserve their quality of life. This includes having better access to education and tools to develop their talents and skills as they work hard to become better versions of themselves,” added Joy.

The Founder & Executive Director of Rumah Charis, Rev. Dr. Teo How Ken, expressed heartfelt gratitude for Touch ‘n Go’s volunteer efforts, saying, “You might be from Touch ‘n Go, but you have touched my heart and stayed.” The event exemplified the power of corporate social responsibility in making a positive impact on the lives of underprivileged girls, empowering them to dream big and strive for a brighter future.
