BSN clinches victory at CTOS Inter-Financial Badminton Championship

BSN reclaims title at CTOS Badminton Championship 2024, edging Alliance Bank for Premier Cup in Malaysia’s largest inter-financial sports event.

Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) emerged victorious at the 2024 CTOS Inter-Financial Institutions Badminton Championship, reclaiming the Premier Cup Challenge Trophy after a seven-year break. BSN, which last secured the title in 2017, overpowered reigning champions Alliance Bank to clinch the trophy, alongside a cash prize of RM6,000, medals, and sports products from MAXX Sport. Alliance Bank, the first runner-up, took home RM4,000, while second and third runners-up Maybank and RHB received RM3,000 and RM2,000, respectively.

The competition, which attracted 24 financial institutions, showcased the sporting prowess of teams across the sector. HSBC Bank secured the Plate Cup by defeating Bank Rakyat, earning RM1,500, with Bank Rakyat awarded RM1,000 for their efforts. The two-day event was held at Arena Sukan Kuala Lumpur, and saw YTL Digital Bank joining for the first time in this sector-wide competition.

Promoting healthier lifestyles in finance

Co-organised by Alliance Bank, the event was sponsored by CTOS Data Systems, which has been a title sponsor since 2017. CTOS CEO Eric Chin expressed pride in supporting the championship, emphasizing the importance of promoting healthier lifestyles among financial institutions. “I am pleased to see that all of us here in this badminton arena take physical health as seriously as we regard the topic of financial health in our work. Our aim therefore would be to promote the same principles of good financial health to our stakeholders, especially the end-consumers.,” he stated.

Chin noted that CTOS aims to foster stronger collaborations among financial institutions, working towards the goal of making financial services more inclusive and accessible to all Malaysians. Chin also highlighted the necessity for institutions to adapt in an ever-evolving financial landscape, reinforcing that platforms like this championship help create unity within the sector.

A showcase of athletic skill and financial unity

The event featured matches across Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Men’s Veteran Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. In the group stage, the top two teams advanced to compete for the Premier Cup, while the remaining teams competed in the Plate Cup. Teams represented major players from the financial sector, including Bank Negara Malaysia, CIMB, and RHB, as well as insurers like Allianz Malaysia and FWD Insurance.

This year’s tournament was made possible with support from MAXX Sport as the official equipment partner, alongside partners AFA Community and FudTec, and it was sanctioned by the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Association. The competition underscored the sector’s commitment to nurturing teamwork and wellness, embodying the values both CTOS and its partners strive to advance across the financial industry.
