Trip.com Malaysia hosts inaugural ‘Green Travel Fun Run’

Trip.com Malaysia’s ‘Green Travel Fun Run’ unites 200 participants in fitness and sustainability, planting 320 trees to enhance biodiversity.

Trip.com Malaysia successfully hosted its first-ever ‘Green Travel Fun Run’ at TownSquare Park, Gamuda Cove, marking a significant step toward promoting sustainable travel and environmental awareness. The event, held under the theme “Explore & Restore,” attracted nearly 200 participants, including Trip.com staff, industry partners, and sponsors, reflecting a shared commitment to fitness, sustainability, and community spirit.

Participants were treated to a 5km fun run, followed by a tree-planting initiative that saw 320 trees being planted to offset carbon footprints and enhance local biodiversity. The venue sponsor, Gamuda Cove, pledged ongoing care for the trees as part of its larger sustainability initiatives.

Ms. Stephane Thong, General Manager of Trip.com Malaysia, remarked, “Today’s success is a testament to our belief that travel should not only explore the world but also give back to it. We are grateful to our sponsors, partners, and participants for making this possible and joining us in championing sustainability.”

Environmental restoration through collaboration

The event showcased collaboration among stakeholders to promote environmental sustainability. China Airlines led as the Diamond Sponsor, supported by five platinum and three gold sponsors, underscoring the travel industry’s collective dedication to eco-friendly practices.

Ms. Thong highlighted Trip.com Malaysia’s broader goals: “We look forward to continuing our efforts in promoting eco-friendly practices and encouraging industry collaboration for long-term positive change. This run also supports national initiatives to enhance urban green spaces. Our contribution plays a part in fostering a healthier ecosystem and encouraging community responsibility toward environmental stewardship.”

A booth by ‘Kloth Woman Up’ further enriched the event, displaying upcycled merchandise crafted by marginalised women, aligning with the event’s “Go Green” ethos and emphasizing community empowerment.

Commitment to sustainability

Gamuda Cove played a pivotal role as both the venue sponsor and an active partner. Its support aligns with Gamuda Berhad’s mission to “Transform the future and Reshape communities.”

Ms. Liong Ve Lyn, Senior General Manager of Leisure & Hospitality at Gamuda Land, expressed pride in contributing to the event. “Providing the land for more than 300 trees to be planted is not only giving back to the community but is also one way of achieving our goal of #OneMillionTrees that is aimed at preserving the country’s biodiversity by planting one million trees across our townships,” she said. “We look forward to nurturing these life-giving trees as we continue to drive meaningful change through our actions.”

Sustainability as a core value in travel

The Green Travel Fun Run exemplifies Trip.com Malaysia’s mission to integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) values into the travel industry. By encouraging eco-friendly practices and fostering partnerships, the company seeks to lead by example in sustainable travel.

As the tree-planting initiative enhances urban green spaces and raises awareness about environmental responsibility, events like these also inspire community engagement and set a precedent for future collaborations in sustainability. Through this event, Trip.com Malaysia and its partners reaffirm their shared vision of a greener future, proving that corporate initiatives can make a tangible difference.
