Kajang siblings win awards at MakeX Robotics Competition

Siblings Muhammad Adam, 11, and Putri Qayreen, 9, won 15th and 18th place at the MakeX Global Final in China, earning Skill Master Awards.

Two Malaysian siblings have made their mark on the global stage at the MakeX Robotics Competition – Global Final held in Shenzhen, China, from December 6 to 8, 2024. Muhammad Adam Mikhael Bin Azziddin, 11, and his younger sister, Putri Qayreen Sofea Binti Azziddin, 9, achieved 15th and 18th place respectively in the Inspire Smart Logistics Category, competing against 264 participants from diverse countries.

Their outstanding performance earned each of them the prestigious Skill Master Award, presented by the MakeX Robotics Competition Committee. This achievement highlights their technical proficiency and innovative thinking, setting a new benchmark for Malaysian representation in the competition.

The Journey from Kajang to Shenzhen

Hailing from Kajang, Selangor, the siblings’ journey to international recognition began in May 2023 when they enrolled at JAZRO Robotics Academy. Both students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kajang, their commitment and passion for robotics saw them quickly rise through the ranks. Before heading to Shenzhen, Muhammad Adam clinched the national title in the Inspire Category of the MakeX Malaysia competition, with Putri Qayreen securing second place.

Their mother, Puan Siti Paspa Binti Mohamad Sofa, expressed her pride in their achievements. “We are very proud of the achievements of our children. When we first enrolled them in JAZRO classes, we saw it as an opportunity to learn. Now, we see it as a pathway to a bright future in the field of technology that can be explored,” she said.

A Test of Skill and Innovation

The Inspire Smart Logistics Category required participants to navigate three complex missions using robots controlled via Bluetooth. The tasks, revealed on the competition day, tested their ability to transport a cube along specific paths while maximizing points and minimizing time. This demand for real-time problem-solving and precision showcased the depth of preparation and skill honed by JAZRO Robotics Academy.

According to Ir. Dzulfarqeish Zainuddin, Chief Executive Officer of JAZRO, this achievement underscores the potential of young Malaysians. “Our mission at JAZRO is to nurture young minds, turning curiosity into innovation. These positions prove that with the right guidance and exposure, our children can compete internationally,” he said, noting the significant leap from the 28th-place finish by a Malaysian in 2023.
