Absen’s 3D panda lights up Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle

Absen’s 3D panda lights up KL’s Golden Triangle, turning the city’s busiest hub into a global digital landmark with immersive storytelling.

The bustling McDonald’s intersection in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle has been transformed into a digital landmark with the unveiling of Absen’s giant outdoor screen and its dazzling naked-eye 3D panda animation. Positioned near the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, the site—visited by more than 500,000 pedestrians daily—has quickly become a focal point for both locals and international visitors.

The installation is the first project under Absen’s Global 20 Super Landmark Cases Plan, celebrating the company’s 20-year journey in digital display innovation. By merging state-of-the-art LED technology with creative storytelling, Absen aims to redefine how urban spaces engage the public.

A panda with global appeal

The centrepiece of the installation is a custom-designed animation featuring a playful panda. Conceived in collaboration with a Spanish visual design team, the short sequence begins with the panda peeking shyly from behind a curtain before slipping while reaching for bamboo. The narrative escalates into surreal scenes of the panda floating weightlessly in zero gravity, being drawn into a swirling vortex, and finally landing playfully beneath the glowing phrase “I Love KL.”

The animation, which spills beyond the screen’s frame in illusionary fashion, is designed to captivate passersby while encouraging social sharing online. “Malaysians have a natural affection for pandas,” said Sophia, Absen’s Malaysia Outdoor Advertising Manager. “This isn’t just advertising—it’s an urban-scale interactive experience that makes the screen part of the city’s collective memory.”

Built for the tropics

Beyond its visual appeal, the project demonstrates Absen’s commitment to durability and sustainability. The A25 series screen is engineered for high-traffic and high-stress environments, featuring IP66 full-sealing and a five-layer waterproof interface to withstand Malaysia’s tropical heat, humidity, and heavy rains.

“We chose Absen for efficiency, durability, and image quality. But more importantly, it helps us create something iconic—not just another ad,” said a client representative. “With 3D storytelling and custom pandas, we make it fun, not boring.”

The display is also designed with advanced power-saving technology, reducing energy use by more than 50 percent compared to conventional systems. For a 300㎡ screen, this translates to savings of up to USD 200,000 in electricity costs over five years.

“We make low power consumption a core focus of our R&D,” said Shaun, Absen Vice President and R&D Director. “The A25 redefines the ‘low-carbon landmark’—energy-smart, reliable, and city-activating. Backed by a 10-year warranty, it sets a new standard for outdoor displays.”

Absen’s track record in outdoor digital displays stretches back to its first overseas installation in Saudi Arabia in 2005. Since then, the company has delivered more than two million screens worldwide. The Kuala Lumpur project sets the stage for 19 more “super landmarks” under its global plan.
