Graff For Nation 2.0 (GFN 2.0) brought together graffiti artists, creative entrepreneurs and members of the public in Johor Bahru, highlighting the potential of urban art to revitalise underused spaces and contribute to Malaysia’s tourism experience.
Organised by the National Art Gallery of Malaysia with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC), the three-day programme was officially launched at KotaJail on September 26 by Pannir Selvam Paliksina Siwalinggam, Chairman of the Johor Unity, Heritage and Culture Committee.
The event was attended by representatives from the National Visual Arts Development Board (NVADB), MOTAC, government agencies, KotaJail and the wider arts community.

International artists bring walls to life
Following its inaugural edition in Langkawi in 2024, GFN returned with the concept of “Spatial Creative Zone”, using creative approaches to transform unused spaces and old premises into community-oriented art destinations.
Held from September 25 to 27, GFN 2.0 featured 24 graffiti artists from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Italy.
Its main programme, Break The Wall: International Graffiti Art Festival, saw participating artists create works live under the theme “Greeting Malaysia”. Visitors were able to observe the artistic process while experiencing different graffiti styles and approaches.
The festival also provided opportunities for artists to exchange ideas, share expertise and develop networks across borders.

Programme expands beyond graffiti
GFN 2.0 extended beyond graffiti through the JAIL Project, which included KotaJail Market x NAG, Graff For Kids, art talks and exhibitions.
KotaJail Market x NAG featured 30 young entrepreneurs and local designers showcasing crafts, streetwear, custom culture and other creative products. Graff For Kids introduced children and teenagers to graffiti and urban culture through workshops, designer toys, skateboarding and BMX activities.
The programme also marked the 10th anniversary of the Malaysian Graffiti Artist Database (MAGAD), established by the National Art Gallery in 2015 to document Malaysian graffiti artists.
Held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 and Visit Johor 2026, GFN 2.0 was organised with various tourism, government and creative-industry partners, positioning art and creativity as part of the visitor experience while encouraging greater appreciation of graffiti as a visual art form.
