RM960 million to get Rela members full uniform

The Home Ministry plans to supply full uniform to 2.7mil members of People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Minister Abu Seman Yusop said it has supplied uniform to 305,500 active Rela members while another 2.4mil members have to wait for funds from the government.

“It costs about RM400 to supply full uniform to Rela member and this means an allocation of RM960mil,” he said in reply to Baharum Mohamed (BN-Sekijang) who asked whether the ministry plans to provide Rela members with full uniform and equipment.

Abu Seman said that priority was given to active Rela members and those on duty at hotspots identified under the National Key Result Areas (NKRA).

“We also provide full uniform to Real members on duty at small airports, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak, and immigration detention depots.
