Bayan Baru independent member of parliament Zahrain Mohamed Hashim today urged the government to abolish vernacular schools which he alleged was causing racial polarisation.

Debating the Supply Bill 2011 in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, he urged the government to revive Vision Schools to ensure Malaysian children were educated in a composite environment to produce united future generations which
do not think of only their own race.

Citing actor and rapper Wee Meng Chee or Namewee as an example, he said Namewee would not come up with video clips that were deemed disrespectful to other races if he had been educated in a composite environment.

Meanwhile, during the same debate, Datuk Bung Moktar Radin (Barisan Nasional-Kinabatangan) suggested a special agency be set up to monitor the high bankruptcy rate among the younger generation to ensure they could contribute to the growth of the nation.

Based on a news report today saying there were 41 people declared bankrupt every day, he said it was critical to address the issue because this meant in a year, some 14,000 to 15,000 people could not participate in any economic activity.
