Selangor residents will now have a new way to quickly alert local councils to issues in their neighboorhood.
Using a residents action portal Wecare.my as well as a smart phone application called Feedgeorge, residents can take a picture of the problem and make the report online.
The portal was launched by Selangor executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar, who officiated at the Community Care Carnival held at the Tropicana Medical Centre Kota Damansara on December 16th 2012.
Dr Xavier thanked the Caring Community group for coming up with an innovative portal. He said that the portal is bound to give rise to better residents feedback.
Wecare.my is a joint effort between the Caring Communities initiative, a civil society initiative to engage residents and local government and Feedgeorge.com, a subsidiary of independent news portal Malaysiakini.
Feedgeorge develops location-based technologies.
“Wecare.my makes visible issues on the ground,” said Malaysiakini CEO Premesh Chandran.
“The site will help local councils pinpoint the location of problems and help residents, elected officials and local authorities track the resolution of issues,” he said.
Over the long term, both residents and government can track the performance of local government services.
