Bersih 3.0: A rally with a different experience

The Bersih 3.0 rally for free and fair election which was held on the April 28 at Dataran Johor Bahru saw people from all walks of life coming together to shoe their concern over unfair electoral process in the country.

IT manager, Ong Guan Sing, who works for a private firm in Singapore, joined a group of 200 Malaysians working in Singapore at Lot 1 Water Front city mall, an abandoned mall in the heart of Johor Bahru city, before marching 7 km along Jalan Skudai to Dataran Bandaraya.

“ Looking at the number of participants, it clearly shows that Malaysians working in Singapore, which were thought to be only concern in their livelihood and earning money, started to show concern about the state of their country”, Guan Sin said.

Zaa’ba Abdul Samad, a social activist, expressed his regrets over the way tax payers been treated.

His concern was on how public money was spent on entertainment events which was ironically organized by the Malaysian Royal Police (PDRM) Johor Bahru on the same day.

Some of the participants, accused that the event was purposely organized by police force to dilute the impact of Bersih 3.0 gathering.

“There are sure great obstacles for Malaysians to express their concern over the future in this country as you can see here public tax money is used to organize entertainment events. This surely not a good example to be set by BN government”, Zaa’ba added.

One participant that captured the attention of the crowd was Low Yew Yi, a Chinese calligraphic artiste.

“I did it my way”, he said.

“My way of protesting using brush and ink ”.

Low got creative with his brush and inks and expressed his his support for fair election and abolishment of Lynas rare-earth processing plant in using Chinese calligraphic art.

In general, it shows how Johorians are concerned about the dire state of our nation electoral system.
