Thousands gathered at the stretch of Jalan Sultan in front of Hotel Mandarin Pacific as well as the intersection of Jalan Sultan and Jalan Petaling chanting “Bersih! Bersih! Hidup Bersih!”
Jalan Sultan is one of several gathering points in the city for Bersih 3.0 supporters before they headed over to Dataran Merdeka for a sit-in protest in support of Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 3.0).
It was like one big party with everyone seems enjoying the carnival atmosphere. The crowd was good, well controlled and very peaceful.
A participant, Jeffery, 51, an accounts executive, said: “We just walk peacefully to show the government that we are unhappy with what is going on now. So we just walk only. We didn’t do anything that is against the law. Just walk.”
Another participant, Patrick Wong, 40, consultant, said: “Basically I know about the cause but I think it’s very important that it feels right to me. I think sometimes you just have to stand up and feel right. I just show my presence. Nothing violent, just to tell the government I am not happy with what’s being done and what’s need to be done. I would like to see changes in our lives. I want to see things happening.”
