Photoblog: Mock referendum consolidates anti-Lynas stance

PENANG – More than 700 people turned up for the mock voting, which included a referendum on the late Teoh Beng Hock issue.

NGO Stop Lynas Save Malaysia organised a mock voting on the referendum on the Lynas issue, which was carried out in 19 cities and towns throughout Malaysia and also in Australia, on 14 July 2012.

In Penang, more than 700 people turned up for the mock voting, which also include referendum on the late Teoh Beng Hock issue.

Four stations were set up for people to queue up to vote on

1)      Adakah anda sokong kilang Lynas mesti ditutup dengan segara? (Do you support that the Lynas factory should be closed?)

2)      Adakah anda sokong supaya pegawai-pegawai SPRM yang terlibat dalam kes Teoh Beng Hock dihadapkan ke mahkamah? (Do you support that the MACC officials involved in the Teoh Beng Hock case to be brought to court?

On the piece of paper, they have to mark an X on ‘sokong’ (support) or ‘tidak sokong’ (do not support).

After writing down their names, and collecting the ballot paper and voting, they them went up to put their votes in the boxes provided.

The people were patient to wait for near half an hour for the counting of the votes.

The final tally for Lynas shows 738 support and 1 not supporting, while for Teoh Beng Hock, there were 760 supporting votes and 1 not supporting.

ADUN Komtar Ng Aik Weik,  was present throughout the 1 ¼ hour event, while  Bukit Mertajam MP Chong Eng,  turned up later to vote and gave a short speech.
