Bersih 4 Sabah organising committee member Jannie Lasimbang was charged in the Magistrate court today for organising the Bersih 4 rally in Sabah.

Jannie Lasimbang was accused of breaching provisions under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 failing to provide a 10-day notice for the 2 day gathering which took place on Merdeka Day in August.

An alternative charge under Section 15(3) of the Act was also read for organising the event without fulfilling all instructions ordered by the City police chief ACP M Chandra.

Lasimbang faces a maximum fine of RM10,000 if convicted under either charge, she pleaded not guilty to both the charges.

The case was prosecuted by deputy public prosecutor Chow Siang Kong who asked for bail to be set at RM5,000. Counsel Ram Singh urged the court to set bail at RM500, pointing out that Lasimbang won’t abscond as she was a former Suhakam commissioner and lives with her family in Sabah.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus ordered Lasimbang to post bail of RM3,000 with a deposit of RM1,000 for each charge and set the trial on November 23 and 24.
