A group of Malay language enthusiasts have come together to set up what is only the second toastmaster club in the Peninsula with the 1Malaysia Bahasa Melayu Toastmaster Club of Johor Bahru.

The club, which was set up recently on March 14, now consists some 21 members, consisting of both Malays and also non-Malays.

“The reason I joined this club is in order to improve my Malay speaking skills, so that it can be as good as my English-speaking skills,” said Bachan Singh, one of the members of the club.

The club’s pro-term president Mohd Awee Sidek revealed that the club has been chartered with Toastmasters International.

“We started this club due to popular requests among my non-Malay friends who wanted to learn Malay,” he said.

The members of the club meet on the evening of the first and third Mondays of every month at 56A, Jalan Perang, Taman Pelangi in Johor Bahru.

For more information, one can call Mohd Awee at 012-7007990.
