Almost 30,000 primary and secondary school teachers will go for further studies under the graduate teachers programme at various higher learning institutions in the country this year.
Head of teachers education division at the Education Ministry Ibrahim Ismail said the programme was one of the initiatives taken by the ministry to ensure all secondary school teachers and at least 50 per cent of teachers in primary schools were graduates.
“The programme will be continued until next year with an estimate of 60,000teachers to be given the opportunity to further their studies at degree level in various critical subjects.
“We offer to teachers with diploma and certificate in teaching to further their studies up to degree level which will be paid by the government,” he told reporters after a briefing session for a university student registration at Wisma Pertanian in Kota Kinabalu.
