Residents of one of Bangsar’s older neighbourhoods will hold a street party in Jalan Limau Purut on Sunday, Mar 6.

The aim of the Neighbourhood Family Street Party is to mobilise the residents and forge solidarity among them to reclaim their streets from criminals.

The party is the inspiration of two women, Zabedah Mohd Noor and Mrs James Erun.

Initially, Zabedah set up a security committee for the four streets in the area, namely Jalan Limau Purut, Jalan Limau Besar, Jalan Manis and Lorong Ma’arof, according to a resident, Vincent Fernandez.

“This committee encouraged the residents to subscribe to a collective security plan to be run by a security company so that they can have 24-hour security surveillance in the area,” he said in a statement today.
From an initial 86 households who signed up, the two women managed to increase the number to almost 200.

Fernandez said that residents will be able to mingle with and get to their neighbours better, and meet representatives from the local police, the security guards of the area, and Alam Flora staff.
