A 1Malaysia Mural Painting Competition held at the Zon in Johor Bahru recently made its way into the Malaysian Book of Records as the longest mural painting in the country.

Stretching up to 518 meters long with the theme of ‘1Malaysia and Nature’, the mural painting is a result of participation by some 108 teams from all over the country.

“We are here to try and make a name for ourselves,” said John and Mohd Haziq, a couple of friends who are students from the English College here in Johor Bahru.

Each team comprised of three members, and the competition lasted six hours; from 10am until 4pm.

“Hopefully this competition will spur greater enthusiasm for the 1Malaysia concept,” said another English College student named Mohan, who drew the national flower Rafflesia along with his 1Malaysia logo.

The winners of the competition were awarded RM 5,000, and the two runners-up were awarded RM 4,000 and RM 3,000 respectively.

All the other participants were awarded with a certificate of participation.
