The inaugural FIMS-International Congress on Sports and Exercise Medicine scheduled from March 15 to 20 in Kuala Lumpur is set to take sports medicine to a new level in this country.
Prof Dr Mohamed Mydin Mohd Musa, the chairman of the organising committee, noted that sports medicine not only caters for sportsmen but also for the community in general.
Dr Mydin who is also the president of the Society of Sports and Exercise Medicine Malaysia (SSEMM) told Bernama, here today that the congress among others has lined up the much sought after advanced emergency sports medicine and the team physician course in its itinerary.
Professor Eduardo de Rose, the current honorary president of the Federation Internationale de Medecine du Sports (FIMS) as well as the President of the Olympic Council of Brazil was here recently to help finalise the content of both courses.
In addition, the inclusion of topics like proper training programmes for the uniformed units augurs well for the security forces and others in minimizing injuries and maximising the human potential.
SSEM plans to utilise this international event as the platform to bid for the 2016 World Congress in Sports Medicine.
He said SSEMM hopes that the Malaysian government and all parties concerned would support the event, which in the bigger picture would contribute to the wellbeing and health of all Malaysians.
