Marine biologists from Malaysia, the Netherlands and the USA begin a three-week expedition to assess marine biodiversity and coral reef health in Semporna today.

Encik Norsih Nusuri, Penolong Pegawai Daerah (Pentadbiran), represented Semporna District Officer Encik Abdul Mohamad Ibnu to launch the expedition and sent the expedition team off on the MV Celebes Explorer.

The expedition is organized by the WWF-Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Universiti Malaya (UM) and the Netherlands Centre for Biodiversity (NCB) Naturalis. The survey area is part of the Coral Triangle, the world’s centre of marine biodiversity.

Follow the expedition blog, where the expedition members will update their daily work and share new findings, as well as share their stunning images and short videos.
