The workshop, part of a programme first mooted by Bukit Lanjan State Assemblyman Elizabeth Wong, was held last month in collaboration with Sunway International Business and Management Sdn Bhd and specialised training centre Our Learning Hub.
Wong said that such sessions were more beneficial to single mothers than merely giving out cash contributions.
“Although cash assistance is helpful in certain cases, we want to train these women so that they will have the skills to support themselves in the long term,” she said.
Wong likened the situation to a popular saying by the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu who said: “Give them a fish, and you will feed them a meal, teach them to fish, and you will feed them a lifetime”.
