A testimony of unity

800 multiracial devotees attended the Pangguni Uthiram celebration at the Sri Kashi Visvanath Temple located at Sungei Abong Muar, yesterday. In the spirit of 1Malaysia, Indians, Chinese and even Malays in the quiet town of Bandar di Raja came together to make a grand celebration out of the auspicious occasion.

The temple located in Sungei Abong was built by Lucy Cheng Bee Hwa, also known as Amma. She is said to have responded to a divine call which enabled her to build this magnificent temple.

According to Hindu priest, Shiva Shri Ramachandra Kurukkal, this temple is a testimony of the devotion of a Chinese lady to the Indian God of destruction, Lord Shiva. It is truly a 1Malaysia temple he said.

Special officer to Chief Minister Johor, Chris Lee attended the event and participated in the prayers symbolic of the true spirit of 1Malaysia.

HPSF personnel carried out Blood Donation campaign during the celebration which was supported by all Malaysians.

The Pangguni Uthiram is festival celebrated by Tamils around the world in the Tamil month of Pangguni which falls on March or April every year. It is celebrated as the wedding day of important Hindu deities.

It is believed that Lord Siva married Goddess Parvathi, Lord Muruga married Devasena, Lord Rama married Sita and Andal married Sri Ranganatha (Lord Vishnu) on this auspicious day.
