PJ celebrates Lantern Festival

Thousands of PJ residents from all walks of life joined in the MPSJ Lantern Festival Procession held at SS23 Petaling Jaya on 25th Sept 2010.

The procession is held to mark the mid-autumn festival (also called the Mooncake Festival) a festival which dates back some 3000 years in China where people worship the moon.

Over the years, much legendary stories have have been told and associated with this Festival, from the Moon Goddess of Immortality Cheng’e, to stories about the Jade Rabbit who sacrifice himself to feed the 3 fairies to the uprising against the Mongol Empire.

The Festival is celebrated each year on the 15th day of the Eighth Month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

Besdies the procession, residents were treated to dance and musical performances by local artistes and a 80 kg mooncake.
