Farewell to Kg Kerinchi

KERINCHI – They become the victims of the urbanisation programme and Land Acquisition Act

Amidst the noise and dusts arising from the demolition of their four storey homes, the 34 remaining families of Kg Kerinchi held a simple yet tearful farewell party and press conference in front of the surau of the kampung.

For many it is farewell to a place they call home for the past 50 years.

Kg Kerinchi was once hailed as a model village and a success story of the federal government’s housing and urbanisation programme, particularly for the urban poor Malays.
Today they become the victims of the very same urbanisation programme and Land Acquisition Act, 1960 which has forcefully evicted them from their homes.
