Senate disappointed they were unable to attend King’s farewell

Members of the Senate have expressed regret they were unable to attend the official farewell ceremony for Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin and Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah at the Parliament Square yesterday.

Members of the Senate have expressed regret they were unable to attend the official farewell ceremony for Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin and Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah at the Parliament Square yesterday.

Senator Mumtaz Md Nawi demanded an explanation from the Parliament administration for not allocating time for the senate members to attend the ceremony.

“As a bicameral parliament, representing His Majesty in the country’s administration system, I want the Parliament administration to explain why senators were not accommodated for the ceremony,” she said when debating the Supply Bill 2012 in the Dewan Negara yesterday.

Mumtaz said the King’s farewell was an important ceremony and an event held once in five years. Meanwhile, Senator Datuk Mustafa Kamal Mohd Yusoff told Bernama at the Dewan Negara lobby that he hoped the Dewan Negara president or deputy president would consider allocating time for the senate members to attend the ceremony to welcome the 14th Yang Dipertuan Agong tomorrow.

After the ceremony at the Parliament Square, Tuanku Mizan and Tuanku Nur Zahirah left for the KL International Airport to board a special aircraft to return to Terengganu.
