Malaysian action-drama Bunohan, which has already been making waves on the international scene, received the NETPAC Award at the 2011 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival.
The NETPAC jury praised the film for its most creative and unique way of using cinematic language and addressing many issues of contemporary Asia.
The NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) award is given to promote Asian cinema by spotlighting exceptional films and discovering new talents.
Bunohan had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2011.
The Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival is Bunohan’s Asian premiere.
Bunohan has also been picked for distribution in several major territories including UK, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand by Universal Pictures.
Set in Kelantan at the Thai border, Bunohan tells the powerful story of violence that men sow.
The fates of three estranged brothers; a tomoi fighter on the run, a hired killer and a shrewd businessman became tragically intertwined in a web of deceit and corruption.
The film stars award-winning actors Faizal Hussein, Zahiril Adzim and Pekin Ibrahim, supported by Bront Palarae, Sofi Jikan, Nam Ron, Wan Hanafi Su, Amerul Affendi, Jimmy Lor and Tengku Azura. The film is written and directed by Dain Said, with Nandita Solomon producing and Tim Kwok of Convergence Entertainment as Co-Producer.
Bunohan will hit Malaysian theatres on 8 March 2012.
