CKD Volkswagens hit town this week

The firstVolkswagen units being assembled at DRB-Hicom Bhd’s plant here will hit the market this Wednesday, November 23.

The first Completely Knocked Down (CKD) Volkswagen being assembled at DRB-Hicom Bhd’s plant here will hit the market this Wednesday, November 23.

Group Managing Director of DRB-Hicom, Mohd Khamil Jamil, said about 70 units of the Passat 1.8 model will be marketed initially.

He, however, did not disclose the price of the vehicle, adding that they had submitted the price and were now awaiting the government’s approval.

He said this to reporters after officiating the International College of Automotive (ICAM)’s adjunct programme today.

Also present at the event was Chief Operations Officer of HICOM University College Sdn Bhd (HUCSB), Sharifah Halimah Syed Ahmad.

In August 2010, Volkswagen signed a memorandum of understanding with DRB-Hicom to produce Volkswagen cars at DRB-Hicom’s automotive centre.

Meanwhile on the adjunct programme, Mohd Khamil said ICAM will he holding the first such programme, involving an automotive college in the country, in January next year.

Under the programme, industry leaders both from the country and overseas will deliver lectures to the students on the present developments and innovations in the industry.
