The government has been urged to approve the permit for a Chinese independent school in the Segamat district, by 240 Chinese association during the Federation of Chinese Association Johor 2011-2013 committee installation lunch.

The Segamat Chinese association wants the school to be built in Segamat so that students need not travel all the way to Batu Pahat, Yong Peng and Kluang to attend the independent Chinese schools in those areas.

The president of Segamat Chinese Association, Datuk Lim Kah Chuan, said that this is the right time for the people of Segamat to have their own chinese independent secondary school as the community is growing and there is a pressing need is emerging.

The move to call for an approval started 2 years ago and has gained the support of 240 Chinese NGOs.

The Batu Pahat Chinese independent school has agreed to support the move by adopting the new Segamat Chinese independent school as the branch in order to get the approval from the Ministry of Education.

Lim also mentioned that the Menteri Besar of Johor agreed to look into the matter, during his visit to the Segamat Chinese community gathering.
