And now, Roti 1Malaysia

Selected orphanages, old folks’ homes and the homeless in the Klang Valley will be given free bread daily under the ‘Roti 1Malaysia’ charity programme.

Chairman of ‘Roti 1Malaysia’, Anne Eu, said initially, the BreadStory Group had agreed to provide bread for the programme through the participation of its branches.

She hoped the programme under the patronage of Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Heng Seai Kie could be enhanced with the participation of other bakeries and hotels.

Meanwhile, Heng said the charity programme aimed to help the underprivileged and make them be part of the 1Malaysia vision of Prime Minister Najib Razak.

“This is a sensible way to avoid wastage and help the underprivileged at the same time,” she said when launching the ‘Roti 1Malaysia’ charity programme here.

Heng said various youth associations and the corporate sector would be involved in distributing the bread and volunteers were welcomed to take part in the programme.

“Besides giving certificates to the volunteers in making this a successful 1Malaysia project, they will also get a sense of responsibility and be part of nation-building,” she said.
