Pahang Sultan wants mosques to strengthen muslim unity

The Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, opened the Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Haj Mosque here last night with a call for mosques to be used in a more systematic manner to strengthen unity among Muslims regardless of their political ideology.

Mosques are also institutions which can enable Muslims to garner knowledge and obtain guidance, he said at the opening of the RM14.4-million mosque.

“The responsibility to make mosques institutions of knowledge and guidance rests with the mosque officials and committee members who have to be dynamic and of calibre,” he said.

These officials and committee members should have wide knowledge of Islam and be creative enough to organise lectures, forums and dialogues of a religious nature to consolidate the role of mosques and strengthen the faith of Muslims, he added.

The sultan also called on the Islamic religious department to monitor the development of mosques to ensure that they are not misused by individuals or groups bent on poisoning the minds of Muslims.

The Sultanah of Pahang, Sultanah Kalsom; the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah; and Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob were also present at the event.
