Building neighbourhood camaraderie through community policing

Citizen Journalists Malaysia spoke to  the secretary of Taman Sri Maharani Residents Association Chua Teck Boon, 38, who is involved in the community policing programme at the recent dialogue between the Johor Chief Police and the heads of NGOs.

Chua explained that the programme was launched to join forces with the police to ensure that the community is safe.

Neighbourliness and constant communication with each other has helped build a strong neighbourhood camaraderie.

Since 2006, Taman Sri Maharani residents have been conducting community patrolling at night engaging youths, housewives and the elderly.

With this Chua claims that the crime rates in the area have been reduced significantly.
