Sabah minister wants single mothers to work harder

Single mothers need to remove the general perception that they are weak and too dependent on aid, said Sabah Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Azizah Mohd Dun.

Single mothers need to remove the general perception that they are weak and too dependent on aid, said Sabah
Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Azizah Mohd Dun.

She said as women now facing the challenge of going through life on their own without a husband, they must adopt a positive attitude and have the desire for self-advancement.

“They need to learn lessons from their past bitter experience and rise to uplift themselves educationally, economically and socially,” she said at the opening of a dialogue on empowering single mothers, today.

The text of her speech was read out by Community Development and Consumer Affairs Assistant Minister Herbert Timbun Lagadan.

Azizah hoped single mothers would rid themselves of low self-esteem, fear and lack of self-confidence if they wished to succeed in life, especially in looking after their family’s welfare.

She said with the various development programmes specially for women, there was no reason for them not to succeed.
