Scratch-and-win syndicate stubbed out

JOHOR BAHARU – The Johore enforcement division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism smashed a scratch-and-win syndicate with the arrest of three men and two women in a raid at a two-storey shophouse at Taman Molek here on Wednesday.

Its deputy director Abdul Hamid Abu Bakar said in a statement yesterday that the suspects, all in their 20s, were acting as salesman for the syndicate. He said apart from that, the enforcement officers also had seized electrical items and medical equipment, including foot massage equipment, microwaves, mattresses, water filters and other equipment worth of RM86,000.

He added that the syndicate has been operating in various locations, such as JB Sentral building, Plaza City Square, Wong Ah Fook street, the car park at Tesco Bukit Indah and Carrefour in Taman Universiti.
