Patrons of the Sungai Way Wet Market (Pasar Seri Setia) can rejoice as a new a car park has been built to ease daily congestion at Jalan 9a/1 caused by illegal parking.

Kampung Tunku assemblyman, Lau Weng San (above, middle in white shirt), today announced the new basement car park of Sungai Way Multipurpose Hall, which is situated opposite of the market, will be open to motorcyclists effective today.

“The parking space will be free in view that insufficient parking lots in the area has led to illegal parking and the patrons are frequently compounded,” he said at a press conference.

He added that the basement car park, which has been left unused for many years, will be an ideal location to accommodate “hundreds of motorcycles”.

“Motorcyclists can use this car park until evening,” he said.

Located at the main road of Kampung Sungai Way, the market is frequented by thousands of people daily, many of whom come on motorcycle.

Lau said the car parks are not suitable for cars as the lane leading to its entrance is narrow and curved.

He hopes the effort will manage to resolve daily morning congestion at Kampung Sungai Way.

“Motorcyclists can rest assured that the car park will not be flooded as we have installed two new water pumps there,” he said, referring to an allegation by the MCA that the car park is a big ‘reservoir’.

Lau was accompanied by Sungai Way village head, Ding Eow Chai, councillor assistant, Yap Chai Huat, Sungai Way JKKK member, Chin Ah Kiow and Chen Siang Chon.
