The High Court today ordered an unemployed men to be detained at a mental institution at the pleasure of the
Sultan of Selangor for the murder of his housemate three years ago.
Justice Nor Azian Shaari said the court found Zulkifli Omar, 30, had committed the offence guilty as charged for the murder of Roslan Mat Sabki, 31.
Zulkifli was charged with committing the offence at a house at Jalan PUJ 5/8 Taman Puncak Jalil Seri Kembangan between midnight and 1am on Nov 26, 2008.
Nor Azian said Zulkifli had opted to remain silent when called to enter his defence.
In her judgment, Nor Azian said that a psychologist from Hospital Bahagia Ipoh testified in court that Zulkifli was not aware of his action and could not control himself at the time of the incident.
“Therefore, I order the accused to be detained at a mental institution under Section 348 (of the Criminal Procedure Code) at the pleasure of the Ruler (of the state),” he added.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhamad Asyraf Md Kamal prosecuted, while Zulkifli was represented by lawyer Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman.
