Four men were charged at the Sessions Court here today for allegedly setting fire to a village security and development committee (JKKK) control centre that also housed a police beat base in Taman Merak, Simpang Ampat, on Sunday.

The four –  M. Parameswaran, 32, M. Gobinath, 30, M. Veran, 23, and M. Jeganathan, 30 – were charged for mischief by fire with intent to destroy a house or other buildings.

All four who were charged under Section 436 of the Penal Code, jointly read  together with Section 34 of the same Code, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurhafiza Haron had proposed RM20,000 bail with two sureties for each of the accused while K. Mangaleswari who represented all four had urged the court to consider a lower bail sum since three were general workers while another was a clerk.
