Freelance fashion model Shweta Sekhon, 22, was crowned Miss Universe Malaysia 2019 in the pageant final at The Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on 7th March 2019.
She beat 17 contestants to take the Miss Universe Malaysia 2019 crown.
The 1.77 m (5’ 9.5”) tall lass of Punjabi descent from Kuala Lumpur was crowned by reigning Miss Universe Malaysia 2018 winner Jane Teoh.
Shweta also won the Miss Glojas Beautiful subsidiary title.
She received cash as well as sponsor prizes worth RM180,000 and a scholarship from HELP University.
Shweta will now represent Malaysia in the Miss Universe 2019 World Final that will take place at a yet-to-be-revealed location.
Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation (MUMO) national director Datin Elaine Daly said, “MUMO has always been about inspiring, transforming and empowering young women out there to be confidently beautiful so that they can proud on a global platform with a sense of purpose, carry the Malaysia flag with pride and be able to make a difference.
“Our theme ‘Beauty Beyond You’ speaks of the true spirit of this competition, where young women are given the opportunity to shine and at the same time, champion a cause that she is passionate about. She must also possess not just outer beauty but also inner beauty in order to stand out from the rest.”
Frost Yaw Hui Jing, 25, from Johor was the first runner-up and Face of Muca, followed by Tessminderjit Kaur, 23, from Selangor as second runner-up and Lee Su Hsien, 25, also from Kuala Lumpur was third runner-up.
A total of nine subsidiary titles were given away.
Among the pageant judges were Miss Universe Malaysia 2016 Kiran Jassal, Miss Universe Indonesia 2013 Whulandary Herman (Puteri Indonesia 2013), actress Lynn Lim and fashion designer and creative director Alia Bastamam.
The pageant is presented by main partners Auto Bavaria, La Jung Aesthetic Clinic and Malaysia Airlines. Among the sponsors are Habib Jewels (jewellery partner), Clarins (makeup), Runway Productions (catwalk guru), Under The Sun Swimwear (swimwear) and MOEP (evening gown).
