Twenty-six civilians who attempted to bribe Road Transport Department (RTD) officers in order to avoid being summoned during operations, were detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) since January.
RTD director-general Solah Mat Hassan said since the arrests were made in January, disciplinary action was also taken on several RTD officers and referred to the MACC.
However, he did not reveal the number of RTD officers involved.
“The RTD has signed an agreement with the MACC and the Integrity Institute of Malaysia (IIM) to combat corruption.
“The department also established a Compliance Unit made up of 27 officers who will look at whether the government’s standard operating procedures (SOP) were followed or not,” he told reporters after closing the Marang RTD One Community One Programme (SKSJ), today.
According to Solah, with the joint cooperation of the MACC and IIM they also received input and information on the SOP of every operation carried out.
He said the RTD also gave the public an opportunity to provide information or make complaints on corrupt practices involving RTD officers through [email protected].
