A recent study noted that the average family income in Asap was about RM5,000 per year, mostly from selling food and vegetables, when the minimum for survival is more than RM16,000. As men have migrated outward to seek wage employment, the burden of labour for agricultural work has fallen on the shoulders of women and children.
