Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) plans to install more closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) in the Malaysian capital in a bid to reduce crime.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Ahmad Fuad Ismail said in line with the government’s goal of reducing crime levels in the country as stated in the National Key Result Areas (NKRA), efforts would be made to replace existing CCTVs.
He said the new locations for the installation of the CCTVs would be identified with the assistance of the police who would monitor the units.
“We’re talking about busy areas, shopping centres and other locations that are frequented by tourists,” he told reporters after launching a programme towards a safer Kuala Lumpur.
Ahmad Fuad said once discussions with the police on this matter were finalised, the CCTVs would be deployed as soon as possible.
