Kampar UTAR students help to clean Tronoh Mines New Village

 

It was a bright sunny day when the public relations final year students of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman thronged the Tronoh Mines New Village.

Upon reaching Tronoh Mines, volunteers were divided into smaller groups with a leader who will be in-charge of them, while they clean the market and repaint the old market and the community hall.

Meanwhile, inside the community hall, deputy home minister, Lee Chee Leong, Associate Professor Dr Teh Chee Seng, Dean of Faculty Arts and Social Science Dr. Sebastian K. Francis and campaign director Thooi Jia Yen were delivering their speech.

During the speech, Lee mentioned the importance of volunteerism and lauded the sense of volunteerism among the students.

“As someone who is more fortunate, volunteering is a good way to give back to the society,” said Lee when delivered his speech in community hall.

Thooi who is the campaign director pointed out the campaign had helped them to gain valuable experiences and become employable in job market in the near future.

“It taught us more than what we have expected to have learnt by just sitting in classroom,” quipped Thooi in her speech.

Thooi also hoped that the slogan ‘Volunteers Work for Change’ would be able to create a change in the community.

The public relations campaign, which was organised by the public relations final year students, is divided into 3 sub themes – healthcare, education and environment and served as a way to promote sense of volunteerism within the campus society.
