A Singaporean was among two men detained by the police in Skudai to facilitate investigations into gangsterism, robbery, extortion and kidnap. The suspects were picked up in a raid at a house in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah last Saturday.
Seized from the premises were a Norinco pistol, 46 swords and machetes, 41 9mm bullets, eight ski masks and three tables meant to sharpen the weapons. Johor police chief Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff told reporters at the Johor police contingent today, the suspects aged 33 and 40 were remanded until Friday to facilitate investigations.
He said the duo would be investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalities) Act 1971, Section 3(1) of the Firearms Act 1960 and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act1958.
Meanwhile, the police detained two men in Taman Perling, Tampoi last Saturday, in connection with 25 break-ins at houses, shops and workshops in Masai, Ulu Choh, Gelang Patah, Seelong and Pontian. Mohd Mokhtar said the suspects, in their 20s were nabbed following information on a break-in at a motor workshop in Jalan Simbang, Taman Perling.
An accomplice managed to escape the police raid, he said. Following the arrests, Mohd Mokhtar said the police seized two four-wheel drive vehicles reported missing in Simpang Renggam near Kluang and Muar, two cars, 10 mobile phones, two axes and break-in utensils.
