Some 3,000 people from 729 families were evacuated to 31 flood relief centres in Perlis as at 10pm tonight.
A Perlis flood operations room spokesman said 2,147 are from Kangar while the rest are from Arau and Padang Besar.
Perlis state secretary, Azizan Hamid, said the flood was not as serious as the one in November last year.
The flood follows heavy rainfall in the state since Monday. Azizan hopes that the people do not blame the Timah Tasoh Dam for the flood as it had occured before the dam became operational.
Perlis Drainage and Irrigation Department director Nishad Mohamad said Timah Tasoh dam had to release excess water due to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail and the Raja Perempuan Perlis, Tuanku Fauziah Abdul Rashid, visited the flood victims in the late evening.
He was accompanied by Azizan and the director of the welfare department of Perlis, Abdullah Ali, among other officials, on his visit to the flood relief centres of Sekolah Kebangsaan Sena and Sekolah Kebangsaan Behor Empiang.
