Will Khalid be the bearer of good news on Subang Ria Park?

A clear path out of the current morass may be in sight.

The Subang Jaya community could receive good news on Subang Ria Park when Selangor Chief Minister Khalid Ibrahim meets local residents there this Saturday.

The meeting, which will be held at the Subang Jaya Municipal Council’s (MPSJ) Laman Kenanga at 3pm, will also be attended by Subang Jaya assemblywoman, Hannah Yeoh, and will update the residents on the status of their acquisition of the park.

Komunitikini understands that Khalid might announce the scrapping of a special term in MPSJ’s draft local plan which reserves 19 out of the 72 acres park for commercial development.

However, it remains unclear whether state government will also amend the park’s status from that of a “private recreational park” to “public recreational park”.

The end of last year saw the Subang community in general clouded with bad news when they shockingly uncovered how MPSJ had granted approval for a part of the park to be developed, which the MPSJ claimed was a legal decision.

The State Planning Committee, on the other hand, had also endorsed two documents stating that the 19 acres of land could be considered for development.

Meanwhile, Khalid is expected to introduce the special task force that will represent the state government and local community to negotiate the acquisition of the park.

The task force, comprising of Yeoh and Subang Jaya Residents Association chairman, AS Gill, has several times invited the park owner, Sime Darby Property, to meet with it, but to no avail.
