The Hunt For Malaysia’s National Costume is On

KUALA LUMPUR – The Miss Grand Malaysia Organisation is inviting talented designers to create a dress that perfectly depicts the rich heritage of Malaysia to be presented at two international beauty pageants

 

Miss Grand Malaysia Organisation kicks off design contest – Miss Malaysia National Costume Award – to find the best national costume for Malaysian delegate at two international pageants namely Miss Grand International 2017 and Miss Intercontinental 2017.

 

The Miss Grand Malaysia Organisation is inviting talented designers to create a dress that perfectly depicts the rich heritage of Malaysia to be presented at two international beauty pageants namely the Miss Grand International 2017 and Miss Intercontinental 2017.

The entries for the Miss Malaysia National Costume Award 2017 in the costume design competition is now opened and submission deadline is 12 June 2017, 12 pm.

The entries will be judged by a panel of judges based on criteria such as demonstration of style, clarity of inspiration and theme, quality of the idea and design, styling of the garment as well as their practicality to be made into a wearable garment.

The winning design will be awarded Miss Malaysia Best National Costume Award 2017 by Miss Grand Malaysia Organisation along with RM2,500 cash which will go towards the design and sourcing of materials for the final design.

Miss Grand Malaysia Organisation national director Jude Benjamin said the national costume was the ultimate reflection of our national identity presented at an international pageant.

“We are looking for a national costume with a relevant theme that truly highlights the rich heritage of Malaysia to be worn by Malaysian delegate on the international stage of Miss Grand International 2017 and Miss Intercontinental 2017,” said Benjamin.

He said the national costume(s) and its designer(s) will be promoted on all communication platforms relating to Miss Grand Malaysia 2017 national pageant and exposed to the world’s press, allowing the design to be seen by millions of viewers and followers of the Miss Grand International and Miss Intercontinental respectively.

The Miss Grand International 2017 will be held in Vietnam on 25th October 2017 whilst the Miss Intercontinental 2017 will be held in India at a date to be announced soon.


How to enter?

The draft designs should be hand drawn or computer generated in JPEG or PDF format of minimum 1 MB size, with coversheets that include the designers name and contact details (mobile and email) and accompanied by a brief explanation describing what their inspired national costumes mean in less than 100 words.

One entry per designer and entry is free.
All entries should be sent via email to [email protected] and attention to Jude Benjamin, who is national director of Miss Grand Malaysia Organisation by 12 June 2017, 12pm.


Shortlisted entries

The best five entries will be announced at the Miss Grand Malaysia 2017 national pageant grand finals on 5 August 2017. These five entries will go through a second round of judging determined by a combination of 50% public vote and 50% indoor judging.

The winning entry(ies) for the national costume will be showcased at a press conference prelude to the send-off party for Miss Grand Malaysia 2017 and Miss Intercontinental Malaysia 2017 in October.
