Manufactured products exported from Sabah in the first 10 months of 2010 was valued at RM18.28 billion, said state Minister of Industrial Development (MID), Raymond Tan Shu Kiah.
He said manufacturing is a targeted growth sector in Sabah’s economy under the development roadmap.
He said the figure was an improvement over that for the corresponding period in 2009 during which RM15 billion in manufactured goods were exported.
He was addressing ministry officials and members of the media at the Annual Media Conference 2011 and presentation of prizes to winners of the MID Journalism Award 2011 recently.
He also said under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP), a total of slightly over?RM98 million was allocated by the state government to the MID.
“The projects that benefited from the funding were the Lahad Datu Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) which received RM8.5 million, Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP)(RM39 million),Sawit POIC Sandakan (RM10.5 million) and Sabah Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO)(RM42.5 million) for its Bumiputera entrepreneur development programmes,” he highlighted.
Tan said the MID also received federal funding under the 9MP amounting to?RM358.5 million, partly in loans and the rest, grants.
“A sum of RM130 million was to develop the industrial zones in KKIP, RM153?million to develop POIC Lahad Datu phases I and II and the balance was for SEDCO’s industrial estate development and Rest and Recreation Project centre,” he added.
He also said that the POICs in Lahad Datu and Sandakan were allocated RM428?million under the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC).
“I am happy to report that this allocation has been fully utilised in the development of both POICs. This is the result of effective planning and sound project management,” he added.
