Parents in Sarawak applying for MyKad for?their 12-year-old children can obtain the identification card within a day at?the National Registration Department headquarters in Kuching, Home Minister Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said today.
He said the MyKad printing service was introduced recently at the Sarawak head office after a pilot project begun on Feb 19 showed positive results.
“Hitherto, all applications had to be sent to the National Registration?Department in Putrajaya and the applicants had to wait for 30 days to get their?cards,” he said in a statement here.
Hishammuddin said the latest initiative at the Sarawak headquarters would?benefit about 43,000 twelve-year-old children who would be eligible for their cards this year.
He also said that since the Sarawak head office introduced the one-day MyKad?replacement programme on Oct 17 last year, 16,001 people in the state had used?the service.
