The Beackea Frutescen (Cucur Atap tree) will be introduced as a bonsai tree during the Asean Bonsai Race Carnival 2011 starting March 12, the biggest annual programme in Malaysia’s bonsai calendar.
The two-day programme, organised by the Kelantan Bonsai Art Association in collaboration with the Bonsai & Stone Academy and Bonsai Club International, will see the participation of bonsai enthusiasts from Malaysia and the Asean region.
Kelantan Bonsai Art Association vice-president Noryadi Noruddin, in a statement today said, the tree found in Terengganu had high value and was suitable for bonsai.
“Each tree is able to fetch up to thousands of ringgit,” he said.
Noryadi said the programme would also educate bonsai members who are not familiar with the tree.
“They will be given a chance to find the base of the tree in its natural habitat and allow them to showcase their creativity by creating a unique bonsai base from the beackea frutescen,” he added.
